With the 4.5mm handpiece, Ultherapy® lifts and tightens the SMAS – a continuous “sheath” under the skin encompassing the entire face and neck, that acts as a carrier for facial fat lying on it. As we age, our facial fat compartments move downwards and outwards, leading to broadening or “rectangularisation” of the face, loss of jawline definition, heavy jowls and deepening nasolabial folds. Lifting the SMAS pulls the overlying facial fat compartments inwards and upwards, improving the negative messages above and restoring the “triangle of youth”, leading to a slimmer, more V-shaped, and well defined facial contour.
With the 3.0mm handpiece, Ultherapy® utilises microfocused ultrasound energy to generate a thermal effect under the skin, which jump starts the body’s natural process to produce new collagen. As a natural protein, collagen works to give skin its youthfulness by keeping it firm and toned. As we age, collagen breaks down, and the result is a loss of skin strength and elasticity.
